THP ACTIVITIES

An initial series of challenges were addressed through meetings organized and completed in 2006: Voices of Diaspora, Refugee and Migrants’ Communities (November 2005), Rural-Urban Dimension of Migration (September 2006), Education, Integration and Immigration (November 2006). These provided input for the International Working Conference on Big Cities and Migration (January 31-February 1st 2007), a global and pioneering exercise which brought together logal governments, civil society organizations and business representatives. Through the follow-up project, (Towards an Inclusive Approach to Citizenship: Building Local Covenants for Change 2007-09) THP focuses on the most innovative ideas and practices regarding citizenship and inclusion in a series of international workshops. City governments, businesses but also human rights institutions are central actors in this initiative, spelling out the agenda for the inclusion and participation of migrants and refugees (and beyond all city residents) in relevant policy fields (e.g. employment, education, health, housing).
