Declaration of The Hague on the Future of Refugee and Migration Policy
PHOTOBOOK PROJECT
AN EYE-OPENER ON HUMAN MOBILITY IN THE 21ST CENTURY
The Photobook Project on Refugees, Migration and Development was initiated in 2007 as a celebration of the fifth anniversary of the “Declaration of The Hague on the Future of Asylum and Migration Policy”, the guiding principles of THP. As an eye-opener on human mobility in the 21st century, the photobook aspires to provoke a positive shift in perceptions on the multifaceted role that refugees and migrants play in communities around the world.
Refugees and migrants are driven individuals who have potential to contribute to society in a diverse and enriching way. The Photobook will promote this perspective on refugees and migrants by focusing the camera lens on their daily lives. Centered on common themes such as family life, transport, workplace, cultural diversity and political participation, the book intends to highlight key challenges and opportunities which refugees and migrants face in large cities worldwide. Hereby, the photographers’ approach centers on the captivating human dimension of asylum and migration and the value of human diversity.
The creative visionaries behind the project are the professional photographers Chris Parkin (UK) and Gerhard van Roon (NL). During the project’s first phase, they have explored the multicultural cities of Birmingham, The Hague and Amman. We are enthusiastic about the results – first previews of these missions will be displayed at several events at the end of 2008.
THP is currently looking for partners to develop the second phase of the project. Please contact us if you are interested.
Current partners: Municipality of The Hague, IOM Netherlands, Dutch Council For Refugees
